Blending stumps

I've always wanted my drawings to look as realistic as I can.
I am not a professional, I am a hobbyist, but I do offer to draw others for experience and feedback.
Blending my drawings seemed to be a important part of realism but doing it with my finger seemed to be hard and the results weren't satisfying.
Blending with my finger resulted with smudges and spots darker then others.
I came across blending stumps and decided to give it a try.
I don't know how a actual blending stump works because I made my own which is great .
All you need to make a blending stump is a rolled up piece of paper.
My opinion is that I much rather prefer blending stumps over my finger.
